A first win of the Campaspe Valley Bowls Division season could come as quickly as tomorrow for Deniliquin RSL Bowling Club’s Division One side, with two players set to make their debut for the club at top level.
The RSL will unveil recruits Ken Riddle and Larry Seely when Division One’s away clash against reigning premier Echuca.
The pair join skipper Daryl Weymouth — who debuted in round one and is the club’s new greenkeeper — as part of a recruiting coup.
The club will also have former Kyabram Division Two premiership winning bowler Don Pearson make his club debut in Division Three.
While taking on the reigning champ is usually a scary prospect, Echuca have struggled to fire up this year, having just two wins from five games and sitting outside the top four.
President and Division One skipper Ken Wellard is confident that a win is just around the corner.
‘‘Ken has moved to town from Bundaberg in Queensland and has played a fairly high level of bowls up there.
‘‘He’s coming back from two knee reconstructions but has looked promising on the greens when he’s had a roll.
‘‘Larry also joins us from Merimbula where he played Division One bowls.
‘‘We’ll see how Don goes on the weekend but he’ll probably move up to Division One eventually.
‘‘It’s huge for us to add more talent.
‘‘While we haven’t won yet what people don’t generally see is that we haven’t been too far away, so we are a chance on the weekend (tomorrow).’’
