Scrambling to victory

Two of Deniliquin Golf Club’s teams for the Volkswagen Scramble have been decided after a mixed team and women’s team won their way to the next stage of the tournament.

Vince Kelly, Gary Rodda, Lyn Bond and Karen Druitt scored an impressive 53 in the Daryl Twitt Shepparton sponsored four-person ambrose event to win their way to the regional final, with a date to be set.

Runners-up in the mixed competition was the team of Wayne Hodgson, Daniel Payne, Matthew Payne and Murray Nielson with 55.

The team of Shaun Mills, Troy Grant, Angus McKinnon and Brian Bennet were third with 57 and in fourth place was Jim Poka jnr, Mark Ritchie, Nick Metcalge and Russell Begg with 57.

Ladies team Felicity McCalman, Virginia Lange, Vicki Hutton and Mandy Phyland combined to take out the four-person ambrose event with a score of 59 to move straight through to the Victorian state finals later this year.

Runners-up were Glenda Campbell, Carol Hardman, Jenny Adamson and Fay Harrington with 61.

Kerran Leetham, Brenda Leetham, Annette Danckert and Ali Ferguson scored 63 to finish third and Bev Purtill, Kaye Rourke, Jen Choice and Kath Campbell finished fourth on 63.

Nearest to the pin went to Colin Thompson and Shandra Simpson, with the longest drive winners being David Whelan and Jen Choice.
