Minding Minds continue climb

By Deniliquin Pastoral Times

Minding Minds have continued their impressive climb off the bottom of the Deniliquin Lawn Tennis Club table with another win on Saturday.

Two players were three set winners in the match, with Anthony Michael for Minding Minds and Barb Lyne for TA Maher both undefeated for the day.

Anthony Michael and son Jack played as second and fourth men for Minding Minds and played together in the men’s fourth set.

Their opponents were Benjy Pisasale and John Sibree.

The Michael father-son combo proved to be winners, eight games to four.

Minding Minds won three sets to two in the men’s sets but TA Maher won three of the four ladies sets on offer.

At the changeover to the mixed sets TA Maher had the lead five sets to four.

Minding Minds managed to claim two sets to one in the mixed to level the scores at six sets apiece.

The game count favoured Minding Minds by the slimmest of margins, with TA Maher trailing 69 to 68.

Tom Wettenhall and Alan Wragge led Taskers Battlers to a strong win over Elders, eight sets to four.

As this match was a clash between first and second placed teams it was a one sided affair with only Annie Bulmer standing in the way of Taskers and winning her three sets for Elders.

Warmer conditions have put the Saturday comp players on notice that there may be warmer weather in store for the two rounds to complete before Christmas.

Players are reminded that the afternoon comp is scheduled to play right through to Easter next year, with finals to be played.

The table after six rounds has Taskers Battlers clear leaders with 57 points followed by Elders on 43 points.

Minding Minds gets a little closer on 37 points and TA Maher are on 31 points.
