The 20 year-old Deniliquin Boat Club committee member therefore had to bow out of the Stock 6 Litre Expert on Sunday afternoon.
‘‘It’s pretty disappointing, because we came in hoping to chase a record,’’ Arnold said.
‘‘And it’s not just disappointing for me, but for the driver (Steven Czapp) as well.
‘‘We had the boat rebuilt and we were on par to finish and smash the record.
‘‘But the night before, during training, the motor just did not want to work.’’
Arnold had planned to ski with Damian Payne in the class, with Andrew Weekes observing.
‘‘Now we’re just looking forward to Robinvale in March,’’ Arnold said.
On Sunday morning, Arnold skied behind 1350 for a fourth place finish in the Super Social.
Skiing with Joshua Reid — with Mark Seamons driving and Adam Reid observing — they finished in 39 minutes and 31.88 seconds.
‘‘We were the fifth boat down and came fourth, and finished up seventh outright for the day,’’ Arnold said.
Arnold broke records at both the 2017 and 2018 events.
In 2017, racing behind ‘Coojac’ with teammate Andrew Hanman, Arnold’s record was a 12 second improvement on the 200hp Outboard Social class best time. They finished the 20km race in 9:24:56 minutes.
Last year the Deniliquin skier broke the Stock 6 Litre Social with his teammate Adam Jones, bettering the event’s record by a second, finishing with a time of 8:42 minutes.
