Entries are being accepted for the next big event on the Golf Club calendar, the 2019 Autumn Classic.
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
It will be played on the weekend of March 9 and 10.
The fourball best ball stableford event, sponsored by Purtills and Wired Entertainment, is over 36 holes on the Saturday and Sunday and generally attracts a big field, so get your partner organised and fill in the entry form. These are available on the club’s website, or at the pro shop.
The next special event is the Big Hole Golf charity day, on Sunday February 24.
This will be lots of fun with a novel format - the holes will be about 20 centimetres in diameter, so there will be no excuses for missing your putts.
The charity day is supporting Tee Up For Cancer and Vince Kelly’s Tour De Cure bike ride. It will be teams of four playing stableford, with NTP, longest drive and other novelty prizes.
It will be an early start with 8am assembly for 8.30pm shotgun hit-off. Bacon and egg rolls will be available to purchase for breakfast.
The $25 entry fee includes a barbecue lunch. Timesheet is in the pro shop.
On the course this week, a versus par round was played on Saturday. A grade winner with +3 was Peter Oddy by a shot from Leigh Chappell. In B grade Mark Thomas also had +3 and defeated Peter O’Brien on square, while in C grade Jim Hetherington recorded +2 to win by a shot from Graham Huntington.
On Wednesday the A grade winner was Peter Beckton with 39 from Frank Conallin on 38, and in B grade Dick Bolton had 38 to win on countback from Des Ramsey.
Last Thursday the ladies played stableford while greenkeeper Terry Howe and his band of helpers were busy cleaning up after severe thunderstorms hit the course the previous night.
Their competition winner was Fay Harrington with 33, from Jen Choice on 32.
Tomorrow is stableford and final round of the Geo Guy Trophy.
On Monday the first mixed vets competition for the year will be played, with 9am assembly for 9.30am shotgun start. Players are needed to continue this important monthly event.
Anyone interested is asked to put your name down in the pro shop to assist with catering for the luncheon which follows golf.
