The courts are slow and low after a lay off over the December and January break however the evening was more that pleasant with a cloudless sky giving great natural light until the lights kicked in later in the evening.
There are four teams made up of 20 player this competition, with 15 players playing three sets each week.
In the match between Agspares and Legal Eagles, it was the Legal Eagles who stood tall 15 sets and 127 games to 10 sets and 100 games.
Legal Eagles won two of the six ladies sets and eight of the 10 men’s sets while the mixed sets were five to four in favour of the Eagles.
It was great to see the return to the courts of three players who have been sidelined for a couple of comps.
Steve Lowry, Adam Menadue and Aldo Armytage have all returned to the courts and have joined up in playing for Agspares.
In the match between Peppin Planners and Mitre 10 it was a close match, with Peppin edging in front 13 sets and 115 games to 12 sets and 100 games.
New players Sebastian Liphuyzen and Hugh Landale played opposite each other for the evening but Hugh got the better of the evening winning all three sets and 18 games to 11.
Another newcomer Ian McKenzie, playing for Mitre 10, won his three sets after a 20 years lay-off from playing tennis.
The committee want to give early warning for the first social function for the competition which will be held on Friday, March 8.
The night will start at 6pm, with meals provided and some exhibition tennis played for everyone’s entertainment, along with some live music.
