Division Two fall in preliminary final

By Deniliquin Pastoral Times

Deniliquin Bowling Club’s Division Two side have been knocked out of finals following a 12 shot loss to Moama at Rich River on Saturday.

Deni managed to win on two rinks for the day, but a heavy loss on the remaining rink saw their Campaspe Valley Bowls Division season brought to an end in the preliminary final.

Toni Brooksby, Mark Tasker, Lee Hillier and Keith Plattfuss (s) had a tight battle on their rink, holding on to a one shot victory.

Graham Nisbet, Stuart Treble, Brian Kemnitz and Lloyd Ritchie (s) also held strong in their clash, finishing four shots up after 25 ends.

Unfortunately for Deni the team of Steve King, Harry Lea, Steve O’Brien and Paul Snare (s) were never in the contest, with Moama recording a 17 shot win to secure a spot in the grand final.

Despite the loss Deniliquin Bowling Club president Ray Anderson was upbeat about his club’s performance in the 2018/19 CVBD season.

‘‘The Division Two side went six weeks without a win in the second half of the season so they were quite fortunate to make finals, let alone make a prelim,’’ he said.

‘‘Division One also had a slow start to the year, but fought their way back to make finals.

‘‘Overall it was a very good season with some good young bowlers joining the club.

‘‘We also had the chance to expose some new bowlers to Division One during the season, which will be beneficial for the future of our club,’’ Anderson said.
