Young swimmers from the area competed at the Deniliquin and District Swimming Championships at Hay on Friday, March 1, in an effort to qualify for the Riverina Carnival.
Deniliquin North Public School had 28 students represent the school at the Hay event, with two students making it to Riverina level.
Megan Lawson (pictured) smashed two records on the day taking home the 200m individual medley record, previously held in 2010, on her way to being crowned Junior Girls District Champion.
She broke the 50m Breaststroke record, previously held in 1997, but will not hold the title as she came second.
Ben Dunmore was the second North student to make it into the next level.
Edward Public School had 23 students represent the school in Hay with three students making it to the next level.
Isla Ho broke the Senior Girls 50m butterfly record with a time of 35.82 seconds and was awarded Senior Girl Champion.
Riley Ives and Alaina May will also compete in the next round.
South Public School had 40 students represent the school in Hay with 20 students making it to the next level.
The following South students qualified to compete in Albury: Matilda Whittakers, Jai Park, Olivia Jeffrey, Bently Hardman, Talen Barnes, Jack Hussey, Izaak Davies-Wilson, Brooklyn Barnes, Jack Van Lieshout, Dylan Warren, Ava Richards, Harrison Moodie, Saskia Malin, Brody Wills, Spencer Cowley, Nick Fanning, Molly Bradley, Winnie Thomson, Baxter Cowley and Deagan Purcell.
Bunnaloo Public School had 11 students represent the school in Hay with a relay team of Lachlan Barlow, Kai Shiels, Tiah Hooppell and Zoe McCallum heading to the next level.
Results from Wednesday’s Riverina carnival will be published next week.
