The tournament will kick-off tomorrow at 11am. The club will provide full canteen and bar facilities.
More players are expected to register for the event’s round robin competition during the weekend, which organisers say is also popular with local players.
Co-organiser Dean Irwin said numbers are similar to last year, indicating a healthy competition ahead.
‘‘We believe it will be a successful tournament and good weekend,’’ he said.
‘‘The event attracts a large number of players from Melbourne, many of whom have been coming for generations.’’
The four day Easter event was first held in 1939 and features an open knockout for men and women, with competitions for A, B and C grade players in both singles and doubles.
Additionally, there are round-robin events for B and C grade players in doubles on Sunday, mixed doubles on Monday, and veterans (over 45 years) on Easter Saturday.
Last year’s Women’s Open Champion, Bonnie Pearson, is returning to defend her title.
Unfortunately last year’s men’s winner Ned Whittakers, who also won the 2017 championship, will not be defending his title, however Andre Mick, the son of previous winner Paul Mick, is making his debut at the tournament after a stint in the USA playing College tennis.
In addition former winner Hayden Fricke is also returning to play in the Open.
The round robin events are particularly popular with the C Grade mixed doubles already at capacity.
There are still a few spots left in the C Grade men’s and women’s doubles, as well as the B Grade men’s, women’s and mixed doubles.
Late entries can be downloaded from the Deniliquin Lawn Tennis Club Facebook page.
The DLTC would like to thank their major sponsor Deniliquin RSL Club and recommend the smorgasbord on Easter Saturday night and the excellent Easter Sunday breakfast.
