The Deni Rovers overcame a slow start to defeat Yarroweyah by 30 points on Saturday.

The Hoppers were 21 points up at half-time during the Picola & District League round five clash before the Roos turned things around at Yarroweyah Recreation Reserve in the second half.

A five goal to one third term saw the Roos leading by a goal at three quarter time, before kicking 6.6 to 3.0 straight in the final stanza.

It was a much needed win for the Rovers — fresh off a 32 point loss against Rennie — moving to 3-2 for the season.

Djaran Whyman bagged four goals while Josh Flight, Ricky Waters and Terry Lumbar each found three.

Flight, Waters, Damian Hope, Des Morgan, Caleb Pannell and Dylan May were named as Deni’s best players, while Shaun and Jack Greenway (two goals) were best for Yarroweyah.

Final score, Deni Rovers 17.15 (117) to Yarroweyah 14.3 (87).

Rovers senior football manager Craig Bulmer said it was a much improved Yarroweyah side compared to recent years.

‘‘They (Yarroweyah) were on top in the midfield early and we were a bit slow to react,’’ he said.

‘‘We weren’t spreading well and they were accurate with their kicking.

‘‘The made us work hard, but it was pleasing to see how the guys responded in the second half.

‘‘We changed a few things and we spread a lot better.

‘‘Dylan May was best on ground with his efforts all game and Caleb Pannell was also impressive.

‘‘Djaran (Whyman) was outstanding up forward. It was the most dangerous he has looked all year.’’

The Roos will be back at home this weekend when they host Tocumwal on Saturday.

The Rovers reserves also left Yarroweyah victorious, downing the Hoppers by 13 points in a low scoring affair.

Final score, Deni Rovers 6.3 (39) to Yarroweyah 4.2 (26).

Rhys Thommers starred up forward for the Roos with three goals and was well supported by Jack Pekin (two) and Brock Ezard (one).
