It was a big long weekend for the golf club, which hosted the annual Winter Classic.

With a number of visitors and good local support the event was a huge success, and the club would like to again record thanks to our sponsors Riverina Watermatic, Cleaner Carpets, MRT Spraying and Landmark.
The major winners of the classic were the men’s pair of Wayne Game and Matthew Petricola who scored 90 points to take out the 36 hole handicap event from Bob Yates and Alan Jenkins on 87, and in the ladies Pauline Davis and Yvonne Holmes also had 90, defeating Denise Hunter and Jan Lord on 86.
Men’s scratch winners were Magnus Aitken and Peter Oddy with 52 points, and ladies scratch were Jayne Wall and Carol Letheby with an impressive 68.
On Saturday the men’s winners were John Penna and Ron Friend with 44, from Neil Bye and Marcel Portman on 43, and in the ladies it was Kerran Leetham and Prue Lloyd on 44, from Marg Rothwell and Jayne Armytage on 41.
On Sunday the men’s winners were J Wilson and S Maurer 45 points, on countback from Ken Maher and Dick Bolton, and ladies winners were Felicity McCalman and Jane Barlow on 45, by a shot from Virginia Lange and Sarah Lugsdin.
Last Thursday the ladies had their monthly medal, won by Prue Lloyd with net 75 on countback from Carol Hardman.
There was only a small field in damp conditions on Wednesday, with Peter Thompson the winner with 38 points, on countback from Peter Joice.
There are some exciting events coming up for your social calendar.
Firstly it’s the Volunteers Day on Sunday, June 30 when the Board gets an opportunity to thank all volunteers for their efforts.
Then, on Friday July 19 we have Christmas In July.
There will be a three-course dinner (including prawns) for $40 per person. Please advise June if you are attending either or both events.
Also, members are encouraged to support the Friday night raffles and activities at the club.
During the winter months the numbers are down with fewer visitors and many members heading away, so any support is appreciated. Raffle tickets are on sale from 6pm and draws start at 7.30.
