Deni headed into the clash at at Jarrah Sportsground in Tumut missing a host of star players, with Staci, Mikah and Kayde Richardson, Ross Gardner and Pete Gow all unavailable.
The team returned home with a loss, going down 12 to 19.
Drovers coach Mark Thompson said for the numbers they had, it was a good game.
‘‘We had a red hot go and I think that’s what matters,’’ he said.
Team manager Angela Coffey added they only had 13 players on the day, almost half of Tumut’s side.
‘‘We were definitely undermanned, but I think the team that we had played really well.
‘‘Tumut had 10 on the bench as well as another 15 on the field so it was a very tough competition.
‘‘Tumut scored first but we scored in both the first and second half, so I congratulate the boys on their enormous effort.’’
Darren Higgins got the first points on the board for the Drovers in the 27th minute with a try, with Con Thalasinos adding to it 10 minutes later. The second was followed by a conversion from Zack Thompson.
Jayme Glanvill was taken off the field by an ambulance with an injury after a tackle.
‘‘He was picked up and speared into the ground,’’ Thompson said.
An update on Glanvill’s condition was not available at the time of going to print yesterday, but Coffey said he was sent to Deniliquin Hospital for x-rays after presenting at Tumut Hospital.
Votes from the clash went to Tjunda Keefe (three), Robbie Fisicaro (two) and Tau Wirahana (one). Keefe also earned the Players’ Player award.
Drovers will host Wagga City this Saturday at Deniliquin’s Rotary Park.
