Big, bigger, biggest.
The well-known annual Tatfest is again approaching and is set to be the biggest and best event yet.
What started out as an idea developed by the Lions Club of Tatura aimed at gathering community members for a fun-filled day in 2017, has become an annual highlight for many.
Tatfest secretary Angelo Torresan said the event was a great opportunity for the whole family to enjoy a day out together.
‘‘The whole idea is it’s just a fun day to get people to mix and mingle and to get family groups to link with other family groups and just get people together,’’ Mr Torresan said.
He said throughout the day people could expect plenty of action; with abseiling, zorb balls, sumo wrestling, jumping castles and a busking competition on the cards.
‘‘It’s a big day for the kids — we’ve got a lot of kids’ stuff with some new things for them this year,’’ he said.
Mr Torresan said with the show expanding, they aimed to cater for all ages and interests.
‘‘What we’re trying to do is not have the standard trinkets — we’re trying to have people that are doing unique things,’’ he said.
‘‘This year for the first time we’re going to have a local cheese maker; he’s got the best brie, triple brie and the best blue and they make it all locally.’’
Mr Torresan said besides providing people with a day out, the event would also be raising funds that would be put back into the community.
‘‘Last year we helped with quite a lot of funds for Moyola Aged Care — so they’ve now got a bus that can lift the wheelchairs up and in,’’ he said.
He said after a discussion among the Lions Club of Tatura members, all agreed on distributing this year’s funds to the Tatura Hospital.
‘‘We found out that the Tat Hospital beds are a bit crook, so that’s where the funds will go this year — to get some new beds for them there.’’
Mr Torresan said Tatfest was only made possible through the help of the many volunteers and a number of sponsors who had continued to support the event.
‘‘We’re very lucky because we do get good support,’’ he said.
‘‘We’ve got some fantastic sponsors including some new ones who’ve got on board this year; Shepparton Volkswagen, Sharcore Constructions, Motor Mobile & Towing and Facility Management Services.’’
●Tatfest will be held from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, March 3, at Mactier Park, Hogan St, Tatura.
