A brighter Moira is a safer Moira

By Cobram Courier

Moira Shire Council has received $85 760 in Victorian Government funding as a part of the Public Safety Infrastructure Fund, to install lighting along a shared walking and cycling path near the Murray Valley Hwy, Yarrawonga, to deter criminal activity by increasing visibility.

The fund is in place to build community safety through the development of security infrastructure.

“The lighting installation project will combat unwanted and antisocial behaviour and give residents the confidence to engage and enjoy their community,” Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said.

Moira Shire Council is one of 14 councils receiving a share in the $1.8 million of funding, a reflection on the government’s support of local councils with these grants going towards urban design projects that will improve perceptions of public safety and bolster the community’s confidence.

The grants were a part of the government’s $25 million investment into Community Crime Prevention Program, building on the $19.4 million invested into the program in 2016 and 2017.
