Alongside hundreds of cacti, tequila and gloriously warm weather, Strathmerton’s Cactus Country on Saturday celebrates Dia de los Muertos — or Day of the Dead — a traditional Mexican holiday, honouring the dead.
Described as the cactus farm’s ‘biggest event of the year,’ the local celebration includes a night of live music, experiential food and entertainment set among the one-of-a-kind 4.85-hectare cactus garden.
‘‘Day of the Dead may sound grim, but, there’s really nothing scary about the holiday,’’ Cactus Country said of this weekend’s event.
‘‘Sadly ... things, plants and people die ... but this holiday is about celebrating the souls and spirits that live on, a celebration of life itself.
‘‘Traditions of the celebration include sugar skulls, private alters, marigolds and our favourite food and drinks.’’
