The Cobram Junior Soccer Association is inviting all interested female players aged four to 14 from across the region to register for its 2020 competition.
A recent $3000 VicHealth Active Club grant has allowed the all-girls under-11 competition to be split into separate under-10 and under-12 age groups.
“Over the past few years, we’ve run the only all-girls Miniroos competition in the Goulburn-North East region which has been has been popular because it gives girls a chance to play and develop at their own pace,” Cobram Junior Soccer Association president Mario Pardo said.
“The VicHealth Active Club grant means that we can now better support an under-10s as well as an under-12s girls age group, which will help to separate the older girls from the younger girls to help with age-related skills and game development.”
The two all-girls competitions will complement the under-5 program as well as the existing under-7, under-9, under-11 and under-13 mixed competitions (for which girls turning 14 this year are also eligible).
“Soccer is lots of fun, and is also really inclusive, so we would like to encourage interested players, regardless of their current level of skill or experience, to give soccer a go this season,” Mr Pardo said.
Part of the expansion of the girls’ competitions can also be attributed to the Regional Girls Development Program which ran during October and November last year.
Mr Pardo said it ran in conjunction with Football Victoria, with more than 40 girls participating in the six-week program.
“The great response to our girls’ programs has supported our decision to introduce the new age groups and we look forward to seeing the return of many of our existing program as well as welcoming new players to our competition in 2020,” he said.
Registrations for the both the Cobram Junior Soccer Association mixed and all-girls competitions are now open at https://www.playfootball.com.au and will close on Tuesday, March 17.
This will enable teams to be set before ‘Meet the Coach day’ at Cobram on Friday, March 27 at 5.30 pm and on Saturday, March 28 at Finley and Yarrawonga, both 9.30 am.
The Cobram Junior Soccer Association autumn-winter season will run on Saturday mornings from April 18 until mid-August at grounds in Cobram, Finley and Yarrawonga.
The cost for the season is $95, and families with three or more children pay $50 for the third and any subsequent child.
