The Department of Health and Human Services announced the asymptomatic COVID-19 testing blitz for drivers last week after the industry was identified as a potential risk area.
The free testing blitz will continue at NCN Health until Friday, October 2, and is open to industry drivers including those who operate buses, taxis and all food delivery vans.
NCN Health chief executive Jacque Phillips said it was asymptomatic testing, so drivers do not need to be showing symptoms and will not have to isolate at home while waiting for test results.
“As restrictions begin to ease across the state and we see businesses opening up, there will be more opportunities for this virus to spread,” she said.
“This asymptomatic testing blitz is in place as an added layer of protection to help limit the spread and keep everyone safe.
“Given that the test should not impact their work or day to day life, we hope to see many of these eligible people coming forward for voluntary testing.”
All drivers must make an appointment for a free asymptomatic swab test and can do so by calling their local NCN Health facility.
NCN Health is also still providing free COVID-19 swab testing to anyone with symptoms of COVID-19, from Monday to Friday, in Nathalia, Cobram and Numurkah.
Testing is available to people who are showing symptoms, however mild, of COVID-19 including; fever, chills or sweats, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of the sense of taste, loss of the sense of smell, or fatigue or tiredness for no identified reason.
● The Cobram Community Testing Clinic is open Monday to Friday from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm. To make an appointment, call 5871 0777 and select option 6.
Testing is available in Numurkah from Monday to Friday at the NCN Health Numurkah car park, from 2 pm to 3.30 pm. No appointment is necessary.
