Rovers fourths feel Bulldog’s bite

By Jamie Lowe

The Deni Rovers fourths couldn't make the most of a solid start, suffering a 36 point loss in their preliminary final against Strathmerton at Memorial Park on Sunday.

The match looked evenly poised in the first term, with the Dogs taking a one goal lead into the quarter time break.

Unfortunately for the Roos they weren't able to keep up with their opponent from that point on, managing just 1.3 to Strathmerton's 6.3 in the remaining three quarters.

Brother and sister duo Alvin and Jemika Cooper starred for the Rovers, with Alvin declared best on ground with his elite run and carry.

Jemika was a rock in defence, with plenty of intercepts and strong tackling throughout to be a close second to her brother.

Others to play well for the Roos were Connor Didcock, Liam East, Nick Stubbings and Connor Buckley.

Final score, Strathmerton 9.4 (54) to Deni Rovers 3.4 (22).

The loss will see the Rovers miss the grand final for the first time since 2016, having featured in the decider in 2017 and 2018.

The Dogs will now go on to face an undefeated Rennie side at Berrigan on Saturday.
