Men
Shane Harvey-Little made a joke of the course to win C grade and how appropriate were the winners of the A and B Grade major prizes on this special day! James Dalton hit one very close on 16 to claim the super-pin.
A grade: 1st Steve Presser (68 nett); 2nd Keith McCormack (68); 3rd Mick McAuliffe (68).
B grade: 1st Rob Kilgour (66 nett); 2nd Keith Jones (67); 3rd Richard Douglas (68).
C grade: 1st Shane Harvey-Little (62 nett); 2nd Brian Guille (67); 3rd Alex McCrae (71).
Saturday, April 3:
Men
The scores reflected the hot conditions in the par event with Adam McCrae shooting four under par to win A grade and Glenn Albert and Jack Sparks having the scores of the day to win B and C grade respectively. Chris Kendall won the super-pin.
A grade: 1st Adam McCrae (+2); 2nd Graham Hodgson (2); 3rd Mal Davey (sq.).
B grade: 1st Glenn Albert (4); 2nd Wade Jeffreys (1); 3rd Chris Day (1).
C grade: 1st Jack Sparks (4); 2nd Dave Cockroft (2); 3rd Aaron McMaster (1).
Women
Eighteen golfers played in the women's competition with Debbie Morden pipping Marie Collins for first place with Gloria Bennett having a good day to finish third and also win the super-pin.
A grade: 1st Debbie Morden (-2); 2nd Marie Collins (-3); 3rd Gloria Bennett (-3).
Sunday, April 4:
Sunday’s medley stableford A grade winner, playing off a handicap of six, was John Tomlinson with 43 points.
Tomlinson finished five points ahead of second place Peter Colliver and third Steven Cook, both with 38.
B grade was won by Stuart Cray with 40 points on a countback from Phyllis Jones. Third with 39 points was Joseph Cosgriff.
Monday, April 5:
9-hole: A smaller than usual field played the 9-hole stableford round on Monday with Heather Gunstone the day’s winner with 20 points.
18-hole medley: The Easter Monday 18-hole medley was also a stableford round with 100 players taking to the course.
In A grade David O’Dea took first place with 38 points, ahead of captain Dave Pearson on 37 and Craig Spiers with 35.
With the best score of the day, B grade was won by Cameron Leed with 44 points. Leed finished ahead of Julie Rowbottom in second place on 41 and Petra Ogden in third with 39. The countdown went to 33 points. Nearest the pins were Peter Anderson and Barb Sands.
Tuesday, April 6:
Men
It was a close finish in all grades in the par event with Ian Williams edging out Mark Emery and an under-par round from Patrick Hannon in A grade.
Howard Eales took the B grade event in similar fashion and Chris Bilkey had the score of the day to win C grade. Joop Flokstra struck a magnificent shot to take the super-pin on 16 East.
A grade: 1st Ian Williams (4); 2nd Mark Emery (4); 3rd Patrick Hannon (4).
B grade: 1st Howard Eales (5); 2nd Keith Jones (5); 3rd Lachlan Webb (5).
C grade: 1st Chris Bilkey (6); 2nd Walter Tink (5); 3rd John Fairservice (4).
Wednesday, April 7:
Wednesday was a stableford round for the women on the west course with 111 players making up the field.
Winning A grade and taking home the Clarice Cheatley Brooch for April was Liz Easther on 39 points.
Glenda Whitby, visiting from Narrandera, came second with 37 while Rosey Devlin made up the top three with 35.
Melva Howell continued her winning form by taking out B grade with 36 points, ahead of Jo Cash on 35 on countback from Ann Velt in third place.
Marilyn Morrell was the winner in C grade with 36 points on a countback to Wendy Williams in second, while Lynne Tucker, in her first competition round at Rich River, was third with 35. The countdown went to 33.
Nearest the pins were Lorraine De Ravin (A grade), Mary Boek (B) and Suzan Hutton (C).
Cath Kelly was nearest with her second shot (in the hole) on the eighth and Jo Cash won the super pin.
Echuca Back Nine
Friday, April 1
Members played a mixed ambrose competition. The results were:
Mixed Pairs: 1st: Josie Kirkman, Eric Qualmann (34 1/4 nett); 2nd: Ellen Banko, Danny Lavery (35 1/4 on countback).
Men's NTP: 6th: Danny Lavery.
Women's NTP: 4th: Josie Kirkman.
Straightest drive: Men: Danny Lavery; women: Pam Reyment.
Lockington
The 2021 Opening Day for the Lockington Golf Club was held on Saturday with a four-person ambrose.
There was a pleasing turn-out of golfers and it was terrific to have visitors from Neangar Park, as well as social golfers and potential new members in the field.
The weather was unseasonably warm, but it was no deterrent to the winning team of Don Muhleisen, Tony Brooke, Ray Brereton and Annette Brereton, who returned a terrific score of 64-11.625-52.375.
Runners-up were Ian Haines, Jacob Haines, Jason Wakefield, Brad Wakefield and Jaime Noonan with an excellent score of 67-13-54.
Nearest the pins: 3rd Ron Dixon; 7th Pauline Humbert, Don Muhleisen; 17th Sue Harris, Mark Lyons; second shot 18th for the six-pack smack Jeff Carnie.
Longest drive on the 15th, sponsored by Hot ‘n’ Cold Plumbing: Women: Pauline Humbert; Men: Grant Humbert (0-18); JD Wright (19-36).
President Matt Baulch acknowledged the hard work and many hours put in by the members to get the course in such good nick for the first hit of the season.
A delicious afternoon tea was a most enjoyable way to finish off the day.

Elmore
Opening Day is on April 11, with a mixed ambrose. Assemble at 11.45am with a barbecue tea to follow. New members and visitors are welcome.
Elmore Golf Club is celebrating the club's centenary this year.
Events are being organised for all past members to return.
