The 12-year-old is set to travel to Wollongong to compete in the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association Primary Cricket State Championships for the Riverina region team, starting on Tuesday.
The Moama Public School student was selected after impressing in the Deniliquin District team at the regional titles earlier this year.
And if he impresses at the tournament, the year 6 student could be representing his state at the national championships later this year.
"It's a privilege to play in this type of competition," Drennan said.
"I'm looking forward to the experience because it will only make me a better player. But at the same time I want to have as much fun as possible.
"I want to do well, by trying to bat for as long as possible and take as many wickets as I can."
On most weekends in summer you will find Drennan playing two games for Moama Cricket Club, in the under 14s and under 16s.
And he has consistently shown he has the ability to do damage with both the bat and ball.
"I'm not sure whether I like batting or bowling more at the moment," he said.
"It's fun being able to make a lot of runs but I do like getting other batsmen out as well. When I do bat I like the cover drive, it's my strongest shot. I just enjoy being out on the ground."
Riverina opens competition against Western region tomorrow.
