Liquor accord supplying free water

By Daniel Hughes

Berrigan Shire & District Liquor Accord members are providing complimentary bottled water at special events all summer long.

The accord is made up of police, like-minded business and community groups who are licensed to serve alcohol to the public.

Together the accord works proactively on initiatives and strategies to minimise the negative consequences associated with intoxication.

‘‘As a body we recognise we can achieve more by working together,’’ accord member and owner of the Finley Country Club Rick Shaw said.

‘‘We all have families and we all want them to come home safely when they go out.’’

With events such as the Murray League and Picola and District League grand finals and numerous coming race events, the accord is looking to keep everyone hydrated and having a great time.

‘‘We are pleased we are in the position to offer help to community groups in a very practical way,’’ Mr Shaw added.

Membership of the accord starts at $25 and organisers will receive $100 for the purchase of bottled water per event.

Active members of the accord having been to meetings in the last year are currently: Barooga Sporties Group, Cricket Club, Hotel, Federal Hotel Berrigan, Finley’s Bowling Club, Country Club, Golf Club, RSC, Football Club. Jerilderie’s Race Club, Football Club, Sports Club, Apex Club, Colony Inn, Tocumwal’s Golf & Bowls Club, IGA, Kelly’s Pub, NSW Police representative Peter Joice, Berrigan Shire representative Laurie Stevens.
