AFTER a lengthy hiatus, Heathcote Foodshare is back doing what it does best — providing relief to those in need.
Having been forced halt the service in September because of a lack of funds, the organisation was able to share roughly 100 meals last month.
However, manager Glen Cullimore told Australian Community Media they would be limiting the amount of food available to people with health or pension cards.
“Unless we get a few Bendigo stores on board we can't afford to go out and collect every day,” he said.
“So, it will be different, but we still want to help ease people's financial burden.”
Mr Cullimore said the organisation was also planning on collecting food not fit for human consumption in a bid to reduce waste.
“That was a big part of our previous operation,” he said.
“It wasn't so much helping the needy as reducing food waste.
“A lot of the smaller farmers can't get bread because it is taken by bigger operations. So they were really grateful for that.”
