Solar farm projects are on hold, not terminated

Speculation that two Deniliquin solar farm projects have been shelved has been rejected by renewable energy developer RES Australia.

However, project development manager Chris Gosling said the project is on hold while the company resolves some issues.

"Development consent was granted by the Minister for Planning in May 2018," he said.

"Since this time RES has continued to develop the project with TransGrid, construction contractors and investment partners.

"The project is currently on hold whilst RES finalise a suitable connection arrangement with TransGrid and appoint preferred project partners.

"The timeline to resolve these matters is uncertain and a specific date for the commencement of construction has not been finalised."

Approval for the solar farms was granted despite 35 objections being received about the developments at local properties ‘Tarleigh Park’ and ‘Currawarra’. Most objections highlighted issues about building on using prime irrigated land.

"The sites were selected due to their excellent solar resource, cleared flat land, favourable ground conditions, proximity to transmission infrastructure and supportive host landowners," Mr Gosling said.

"Development consent has been granted for both projects and the consent process considered all issues raised during consultation."
