Council's annual General Purpose Grant increased from $3,887,694 in the 2018/19 financial year to $4,111,465 for the 2019/20 financial year and the Local Roads Grant increased from $1,514,616 (2018/19) to $1,566,246 (2019/20).
This $5,677,711 total equates to an income increase in the Financial Assistance Grant of 5.3 per cent, which is a win for local residents.
Acting general manager Trish Kirkland said the extra funding is allocated to road maintenance and renewal.
“For local residents, this means more funding assistance to maintain our roads,” she said.
The commision distributes the grants across the state based on population growth and decline, as well as to communities in the greatest relative need.
“The funding change is a redistribution based on a complex formula, including an assessment of need and capacity to fund road works,” Ms Kirkland said.
“The commission provide funding support to all councils to improve the road infrastructure network.
“And this increase really does make a difference because council can now attend to more works, improving more local roads.”
