The gymnastics area has doubled in size, with plenty of room now available to train more young gymnasts.
Head coach Melanie Kennedy said she was amazed when she first saw the new gymnastics area.
‘‘We have so much more space now. This has allowed us to have all of our equipment out on the floor rather than having to put some in storage and bringing it out when we need it,’’ she said.
‘‘It also gives everyone a chance to be continuously active rather than waiting around to use equipment.’’
Mrs Kennedy said the extra space will allow for the return of the popular cheerleading classes.
‘‘We started cheerleading last year but now we have better facilities to cater for this.
‘‘If we can get enough coaches on board, the bigger space means we can have more gymnasts and cheerleaders there at the one time and still have more room to move around.
‘‘This upgrade has been a big benefit for not just us, but all user groups of the stadium.’’
Mrs Kennedy and fellow gymnastics coach Nicole Felmingham spent the weekend setting up the new area before last night’s opening, with help from stadium manager John Arthur and volunteer Katrina Ives.
