The book on pioneers pre 1900 is being produced by the Deniliquin Genealogy Society, and president Val Hardman said local and family knowledge is key to the content.
‘‘The aim of the book is to remember those that came before us; their trials, hardships and contributions to our wonderful town, be it small or large,’’ she said.
‘‘We want to collate some of the history of Deniliquin.
‘‘Anyone with an ancestor who lived in Deniliquin pre 1900 is encouraged to write a story to submit to our pioneers’ book.’’
Mrs Hardman said they also request any appropriate photos be submitted with the article.
‘‘These can be scanned and returned to the contributor straight away,’’ Mrs Hardman said.
‘‘The story can be a minimum of half a page, or up to four pages in length.
‘‘We have more than 20 stories so far that have been submitted, mostly from descendants who have left Deniliquin, along with some great photos.
‘‘Genealogy Society members would be happy to help with local research at the library on Fridays between 10.30am and 4pm. Or if you work, we can organise another time.
‘‘Don’t miss out having your ancestor remembered and recorded for their contribution.’’
The closing date for stories is March 31.
The Deniliquin Genealogy Society intends to have the book completed and published in time for its Deniliquin Genealogy Muster in October.
