Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) says plans are progressing well for the $4.6 million upgrade to Deniliquin Hospital.
MLHD Asset Management team has been working closely with a number of local users to develop a range of options with a focus on the Emergency Department and the Theatre spaces.
“There have been a number of site visits and meetings and we are now in the final stages of the concept design phase with a number of options being developed, prior to entering into formal ‘Project
User Group’ sessions,” manager of assets and clinical technology Darren Green said.
The plans have been discussed with the Deniliquin Health Action Group.
MLHD plans to undertake the work in stages to minimise disruption and optimise outcomes. These stages will be outlined in the detailed design phase of the project.
While some disruption to services is expected, MLHD said it would be managing the construction and commissioning phases to ensure the continuance of essential services during the building process.
Member for Farrer Sussan Ley said the funding was secured in the federal budget and the work is set to start as scheduled.
“While NSW is the project manager the $1.4m in federal funding I have committed to assist with the Emergency Department upgrade is locked away in our budget for this coming financial year,” she said.
“I know there is a lot of expectation to see something happening on the ground, and I’m told the upgrade is on track and on time for work to start up in July.”
“It’s really important we ensure essential services are maintained throughout the build, so this forms a crucial element of our planning processes,” Mr Green said.
Total funding for the upgrade includes $3.2 million from the State Government and $1.4 million from the Commonwealth Government.
