Deni Fest incorporates a number of individual community and council events at Easter, and until last week all but the popular ArtOut Vintage and Artisan Market and Deniliquin Lions Community Market had been officially cancelled or postponed.
They too were forced to cancel after new government restrictions limiting food and other markets were handed down.
The Deniliquin Baptist Church had intended to move its Easter in the Park service to its Regent Theatre instead, but further restrictions on indoor gatherings and church services also forced its cancellation.
‘‘We are saddened and disappointed that this wonderful festival that celebrates Deni’s arts and culture scene has been cancelled this year, but all the individual event organisers are taking the precautions seriously and in line with government guidelines,’’ Edward River Mayor Norm Brennan said.
‘‘Due to the rapidly developing and changing situation, the wellbeing of our community is of utmost importance.
‘‘We’re really looking forward to Easter 2021 when Deniliquin will once again come alive with arts and culture, including the beloved Rotary Easter Arts Show, The Art Out Market, live music throughout the town and an abundance of visitors to our town.’’
Deniliquin Baptist Church Pastor Chris Taylor said people do not have to miss out completely, with the church now offering a virtual Easter service on Easter Sunday, April 12.
‘‘We are very disappointed to have to cancel such a great family event, but we are looking to continue offering our church services online,’’ he said.
‘‘All of our services, including the Easter service, will be on Zoom which is an online platform. However you will have to request to join.
‘‘If you would like to be a part of this online service or are interested in joining, contact myself on 5881 5580 or email denibaptistchurch@iinet.net.au.
‘‘We will keep the community updated as the situation changes.’’
