The man allegedly assaulted the woman and threatened her with a knife before she was able to flee and call police.
He was arrested and was awaiting a bail hearing via audio link to Wagga Local Court from the Deniliquin Police Station yesterday.
He was charged with armed with intent, intimidation and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Damage to building
Police want to speak with three people seen leaving a vacant End St building about 10am on Wednesday.
Witnesses reported the people dressed in all black to police, who found a damaged door when investigating.
The door had been left ajar, and police said there was broken glass nearby.

Hit and run
Police are investigating what they believe was a hit and run incident in Napier St, Deniliquin on Sunday.
The owner of a white Navara noticed a small dent and scratches on Sunday afternoon.
Police said the law requires that all drivers involved in a road accident must exchange details.
Fraud investigation
A local resident has been tricked into depositing money into an unknown bank account.
Police said the victim received an email claiming to be a business they owed money to, and deposited money into their account with the provided bank details.
They received a second email the next day, and deposited more money before realising something was not right.
After checking the details, the victim realised they had been deceived and reported it to police.
Enquiries are continuing.
Attempted break-in
Police are investigating an attempt to steal from a car parked at a south Deniliquin residence between midnight and 12.30am on Tuesday.
The car alarm sounded at midnight and the owner went outside to turn it off.
The alarm went off again 30 minutes later, but the owner did not see anything out of the ordinary and turned it off again.
In the daylight, the car’s owner noticed marks on the car which police say are consistent with someone trying to force the car door open.

Car window broken
Between 4pm on Sunday and 3pm on Monday, the right passenger side window of a car parked at a home in west Deniliquin was smashed.

Damage at TAFE
Between 5.30pm on Monday and 4am on Tuesday, the screen door at the Deniliquin TAFE canteen was damaged.
Police believe someone had attempted to break in, but was unsuccessful.
