She had planned the event specifically to bring her family together from all over for a happy occasion.
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic she had resigned herself to the fact she would spend her April 17 birthday very differently this year, but she could not anticipate the surprise her daughters Mel Dudley and Abby Wilson had in store for her.
The girls encouraged their mother to enjoy the sunshine in the front yard, and that’s when Daph’s friends and family started to drive past, toot their horns, wave and shout out ‘happy birthday’.
‘‘It was such a beautiful surprise, I even started crying,’’ Daph admitted.
‘‘It was truly amazing and a birthday I will never forget.
‘‘All day I could not believe what had happened.’’
Mel said even she was overwhelmed by the love their friends and family had shown by doing something small to make her mum’s day one to remember.
‘‘Mum is the kind of person who does things for everyone else, and we wanted to make her 60th as special as we could,’’ she said.
‘‘Mum texted us Friday night and said it was so much better than the party she had planned.
‘‘We’re so glad we pulled off the surprise.’’
