The contractor will also start the reconstruction of Waring Gardens, doing both projects simultaneously.
The full Cressy St and Waring Gardens upgrades are expected to take four to five months to complete and will complement upgrades already completed in Napier St which took place between May and September last year.
Quarrell Civil Construction last week completed the road construction between Hardinge and Napier Sts, installing a seal to ensure the road surface is protected while the tree installation and stormwater works take place.
This week’s work is expected to include stormwater connections, installing the concrete kerb around the pits and tree islands, installing established ornamental pear trees and low native shrubs, asphalt on the road and the footpath outside the Federal Hotel and parking signs.
‘‘Asphalt works are scheduled for Thursday, subject to weather conditions and completion of kerb and stormwater,’’ a spokesperson said.
‘‘Traffic controls providing one-way vehicle access from the Hardinge St end will be in place for most of the week. However, there will be some additional disruption to traffic during the asphalt installation.
‘‘Traffic will be allowed back on the road soon after the asphalt installation is complete.
‘‘Council staff will be monitoring the traffic control measures as the works progress, and will work with businesses to minimise any impacts.’’
Works extending beyond next week include line marking, installation of garden bed irrigation and mulch, street furniture and the paving outside the Federal Hotel.
