Intereach’s Out Of School Hours (OOSH) Vacation Care provides safe, fun and engaging activities for primary school aged children from Kindergarten to Year 6, and bookings for July are now open.
Activities will include a PJ day, bead making, sports, a dance off, box themed art day, pallet cubbyhouse building, origami, a backwards day, pancake making and eating championships, lanyard making, string art and a bike safety day. Children will also learn to make meat pies and Chinese food.
OOSH operates Monday to Friday from 8am until 6pm during the school holidays, at the Intereach Family Centre at 366 Trickett St, Deniliquin.
Bookings are essential and families must enrol before booking.
For more information, or to book your child’s place, phone 5890 5260 or 0428 554 478, or email oosh@intereach.com.au.
Ribbons vandalised
Blue ribbons tied to the Kolety National Bridge as a tribute to the efforts of essential workers during the Coronavirus pandemic continue to be vandalised.
They have been disappearing on a regular basis since being placed there by Deniliquin Local Health Advisory Committee chair Lourene Liebenberg and her mother Meyerene Geldenhuys on May 28.
St Michael’s Primary School students even helped replace the 200 ribbons in mid-June, but some were gone again soon after.
A lot of these ribbons are now being found, damaged, under the bridge.
‘‘If anyone is out for a walk or has time could you help by picking these up, place them in a bag and just drop them off to Janine. We can reuse them,’’ Mrs Liebenberg said.
Out for six weeks
Deniliquin footballer Sam Lloyd is expected to miss up to six rounds of the AFL season due to a collarbone injury.
The Western Bulldogs forward went under the knife to repair his broken collarbone on Monday after suffering the injury in his round four clash against Sydney on Thursday last week.
It was confirmed on Tuesday by Western Bulldogs medical services manager Chris Bell that the former Deniliquin Rams premiership player would miss at least four to six weeks.
Lloyd’s Bulldogs will take on North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium at 7.40pm tomorrow night.
Close contest
It looks like there may be a photo finish in the inaugural Pastoral Times Top Dog competition.
Jack Tyndall’s Aussie bulldog Louie and Lily Andrews’ Miniature Dachshund Coco are well out in front of the other 50 entries, with more than 1000 votes each.
At the time of going to print yesterday, Louie was out in front on 1126 votes.
Coco was a very close second with 1070 votes.
Combined they have more than a third of the total votes to date, with 5601 votes cast in the competition by yesterday.
Voting remains open until 11.59pm tonight, at www.denipt.com.au/topdog.
You can vote as many times as you like, for as many dogs as you like.
The winner will be featured in our Tuesday edition.
Hampers distributed
More than 30 hampers have gone to those in need thanks to donations made to the Red Shield Appeal.
The local community raised more than $3500 which was used to create the hampers, and later distributed by Intereach and St Vincent De Paul Society.
The Deniliquin Salvation Army thanked all who gave to the appeal.
Without these donations, they would not have been able to achieve this.
