The club’s primary role is to coordinate the annual Deniliquin Fishing Classic, held on the Edward River each February.
It is also responsible for restocking the river system with new fingerlings, obtained through a dollar-for-dollar program utilising Classic proceeds.
With enough members and volunteers, the club can also pursue its plans to establish a junior fishing club.
Club secretary/treasurer Diane Field said without new members, the club will not be able to form a committee for the next 12 months.
She said the president’s role will be left vacant from next week, with David Hart stepping down after five years at the helm.
A Fishing Club meeting will be held at the Deniliquin RSL Club on Monday night, from 6pm.
Ms Field said while the meeting is open to existing Deniliquin RSL Fishing Club members only, she urged anyone wishing to become a member to come forward and register their interest.
‘‘We need to form a committee and we also have to consider the impacts of Coronavirus on our next event,’’ she said.
‘‘We also want people to bring forward their ideas for the club.’’
