It will be used to upgrade the bowling club, specifically its clubroom facilities which have fallen into a state of disrepair due to termite damage.
It is one of five projects Murray River Council will fund from its $1 million Drought Communities Programme Extension allocation.
Mayor Chris Bilkey said the upgrades are vital for the survival of this important social hub, which is not a registered club.
‘‘This project will ensure long term usage of the facility while also delivering the opportunity to attract new community groups and more frequent competition.,’’ he said.
‘‘This in turn delivers a flow-on of expenditure across businesses in the local community, which is vitally important to smaller townships during this time.’’
The work will be undertaken by local tradesmen and volunteer labour from the local community, and is expected to be completed by December 31.
Other funded projects include: Barham Micro Abattoir Project, $375,000; Murray River Council Tourism Promotion and Marketing Campaign Project, $100,000; Moulamein Heritage Village stage two development, $95,000; Tooleybuc Multipurpose Sealed Track Project, $80,000.
