Works to the Charlotte St entrance of the Central IGA supermarket and Deniliquin Ute on the Pole were finished and re-opened to the public last week.
Excell Gray Bruni undertook the improvements, which started in March.
Riverfront project manager John Webb said the aim of these upgrades were to visually improve the streetscape and increase opportunities and incentive for travellers to stop and utilise the Deniliquin business area.
‘‘The upgrades have increased parking capacity particularly at the Ute on the Pole car park, and provides a safer traffic area particularly at the IGA car park where there are better defined paths of travel,’’ he said.
‘‘The upgrades have also provided better defined long vehicle parking to encourage caravans to stop in Deniliquin.
‘‘Works upstream of the bridge will provide a significantly improved public space and better connection between the river and township and businesses.
‘‘And the river access improvements will induce greater use of the public space.’’
These upgrades will complement other riverfront upgrades, which started in the parkland adjacent to the Peppin Heritage Centre at the beginning of February.
B Green Constructions is expected to finish these works by early August.
‘‘The construction of the large ramp behind the Crossing Café to link the upper river frontage to the Riverfront Walk will be completed in about two weeks and the construction site on that side of the bridge will be removed and the area opened up to the public,’’ Mr Webb said.
‘‘Also included in these upgrades are newly planted arbours, upgraded pathways through the area and significant landscaping.
‘‘Council is currently designing improvements to the boat mooring jetties in this section of the river to improve the connection between the river and township. It is anticipated these will be completed by late 2020.
‘‘Contractors have been very efficient and accommodating of any issues that can often occur during large contracts such as these.’’
