Gas bottle ignites

The small fire had extinguished itself by the time firefighters arrived, but a hissing could still be heard coming from the tank.

RFS district officer Terry Campbell said the potential leak was a concern, as fire drums were also being used at the home.

NSWFR Captain Martin Smith said firefighters removed and isolated the gas tank, and removed the damaged hose.

He said the likely cause of the blaze was a faulty connection, possibly due to its age.

‘‘For safety, you should make sure gas bottle connections are secure and safe before each use and after each replacement,’’ Capt Smith said.

‘‘You should check the condition of the connections, and you can use soapy water to check for any leaks.’’
