Edward River Council Mayor Norm Brennan said proposals from the working party and local experts will guide the progression of the project.
He said its members will be tasked with keeping the project on track and, more importantly, research what would benefit the ageing population of the district.
‘‘Council is now looking at what steps it should be taking to advance the project and is seeking some local expert input and advice,’’ Cr Brennan said.
‘‘We don’t need to create a wheel or invent a new wheel; we just need to do what people have done before.
‘‘We have examples around here, including Alumuna in Finley, and a whole variety of different ones we can use as models for that working group to find out which is the best situation for Deniliquin.’’
Forming the working party is stage two of council’s development plan.
In stage one, it engaged an architect to develop concept designs for the project.
Council has decided not to bring the architect along for stage two, with the working group expected to provide feedback on any further design ideas.
The council took control of the development process when preferred developer Southern Cross Care withdrew from the project last year.
It will continue to progress through the states as required, until a suitable developer or aged care can come on board to finish the project.
Land for the development — 2.2 hectares in the heart of Deniliquin, bordered by Poictiers, Harfleur and Napier Sts — was secured by the council in 2017.
