The centre, which also houses a local history museum and public art gallery space, was initially closed under COVID-19 restrictions in March.
The closure presented the perfect opportunity to start planned renovations at the centre and the adjacent Crossing Cafe, which are expected to be finished in about two weeks.
Works include the relocation of staff toilets at the information centre and upgrades to the kitchen, toilets and outdoor area of the Crossing Cafe section of the Peppin Heritage Centre, making it more accessible to users of the building.
‘‘The certificate of occupancy was ticked off last week, with a few minor works to be completed and a couple of small items to be rectified,’’ Mayor Norm Brennan said.
‘‘It has always been a very popular spot so it is fortuitous it can start back up and begin operating again, hopefully going back to normal operations in no time.’’
Only the visitor information space of the centre is expected to be reopened initially.
The gallery and museum areas are expected to reopen by late August, and Cr Brennan said exhibitions are expected to resume soon after that.
While not open, people can still obtain visitor information from the centre.
Free mountain bike hire is still also being offered for those wanting to tackle the trails in the Murray Valley Regional Park.
You can call the team at the information centre to organise hire and pickup, or visit the George St building once it is re-opened.
The track is located within the Murray Valley Regional Park and can be easily accessed via the Willoughby’s Beach entrance or from Packenham St.
Until then, contact the centre on 1800 650 712 for more information.
