The Murray to Moyne Cycle Relay travels over 500km from Echuca to Port Fairy each year, and the Deniliquin Murray to Moyne team has been going strong for 31 years thanks to the generous support of Deniliquin businesses, community members and health service staff.
The Murray to Moyne committee held an extraordinary meeting in March to discuss COVID-19 and given the uncertainty of the rapidly evolving situation the decision was made to cancel the Murray to Moyne Cycling Relay event for 2020, rather than postpone it.
The Murray to Moyne committee felt they had a duty of care to the many volunteers, riders, support crews, and committee to reduce the risk of anyone contracting COVID-19 during the event.
Last year the Deniliquin team raised more than $10,000 from the Murray to Moyne, which was donated directly to the Deniliquin Hospital for the purchase of medical equipment.
This year the team was unable to ride or hold the yearly ‘Mystery Movie Night’ fundraiser, yet still had many businesses and local community members donating to the cause.
Thanks to their generous efforts we were able to purchase a portable oxygen concentrator worth $4500 for use by clients in our community.
The Deniliquin Community has been fantastic in supporting our efforts in past years.
We will be back bigger and better in 2021 and will continue to work with the community to support our local health services.
Thank you from the Murray to Moyne Cycle Relay Team for 2020.
Yours etc.Graeme ButcherDeni Hospital Fundraising Committee
