There is something for all ages and skill levels, and SWM director Kate Butler said it’s a great way to learn something new, have a refresher, spark a child’s imagination or ignite a lifetime passion.
For the first time, piano teacher Tomoko Niwa is running a three-day recorder program in Deniliquin for young children from January 12 to 14.
Youngsters will learn to read music, understand rhythm and harmonies and play some tunes, culminating in a mini-performance for parents.
‘‘You may think that playing the recorder is no longer what the cool kids do but, like the ukulele, it is an excellent ‘gateway’ instrument that can introduce young children to music,’’ Ms Butler said.
‘‘The program costs $40 and includes a Yamaha recorder to keep.
‘‘Speaking of ukuleles, they are called the happiest instrument and Chris Bodey will run a three days kids’ ukulele program in Deniliquin from January 12 to 14.
‘‘It is ideal for young people aged eight and over, and caters for all skills levels from ‘I've never played an instrument before’ to ‘I could be the next Vance Joy’. Participants can bring their own a ukulele or have one provided.
‘‘Numbers are limited, so get in fast if you want to book a place. The $40 fee pays for three 90 minute lessons and a ukulele to play and take home between sessions.’’
If you have always wanted to try out a trumpet, saxophone or clarinet, George Maddison will lead a free session where you get to learn about different woodwind and brass instruments.
It will be held Tuesday, January 19.
‘‘You can try out flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and trombone and see which one suits you best,’’ Ms Butler said.
‘‘If you love it, you can even book in for a 30 minute paid lesson with one of our experienced teachers.
‘‘This is suitable for all ages, and bookings are essential.’’
SWM is also taking bookings for a one-off or series of 30 minute sessions between January 19 and 21 for anyone who requires extra help in leaning an instrument or on vocals.
These sessions are suitable for all ages and skill levels. The $30, 30 minute sessions are available for piano, guitar, ukulele, banjo, mandolin, vocals and all woodwind and brass.
