Seven participants showcased ukulele skills they had learnt from Chris Bodey throughout the week in the special concert on Thursday.
The youngsters have been taught how to read music, understand rhythm and harmonies and play some tunes, which culminated in the mini-performance.
Director Kate Butler said it was the first time South West Music has run a holiday program.
‘‘It was a great opportunity for the kids to try a new instrument, and they all had plenty of fun doing it,’’ she said.
‘‘They didn’t just learn about ukulele but also learnt about performance and presentation.
‘‘Chris did an amazing job with this and gave all the kids roles in order to let them have their moment and shine at the concert.
‘‘We also will be holding piano lessons with Tomoka Niwa and vocal lessons with Richard Sievers throughout this week.
‘‘We have had a good uptake of people wanting to participate in these programs and it will be something that we will likely look to hold again in the future.’’
South West Music will be hosting another holiday session today.
George Maddison will lead the free tutorial where those in attendance will learn about different woodwind and brass instruments.
Participants will get to try out playing the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and trombone.
SWM is also taking bookings for a one-off or series of 30 minute sessions between today and Thursday, January 21 for anyone who requires extra help in learning an instrument or on vocals.
These sessions are suitable for all ages and skill levels. The $30, 30 minute sessions are available for piano, guitar, ukulele, banjo, mandolin, vocals and all woodwind and brass.
