The college has re-imagined the way it delivers its curriculum to ensure students can flourish, grow and be diverse learners.
It has replaced the traditional four-year experience across years 7 to 10 with a ground-breaking ‘myMAP’ program.
This is a program aimed to foster mastery, autonomy and purpose. It is so unique that other schools from across Australia are visiting Kilmore to see how the program enables a culture of connection, ownership and engagement with learning.
“All our students are encouraged to be resourceful and well-informed adventurers throughout their journey,” principal Kate Fogarty said.
“They are reminded that it is not a race and each journey will be unique to them.
“We are proud to deliver over 300 different subjects across all learning domains. This offers students choice and a truly personalised learning journey.
“This year we have been excited to offer a range of subjects that we know many other schools are unable to make available. Students, for example, can now undertake archaeology, high performance netball, women in history, Indigenous studies, biotechnology, and psychology of mental health.
Assumption College students also have opportunities to learn and share high quality and professional technology. Some are choosing to become engaged in drone operation, while others use 3D printers, photography or AV equipment.
“The school also has an active agriculture area,” Ms Fogarty said.
“We have just started a Corriedale stud program and we have students participating in the Royal Melbourne Show Poultry in Schools Competition.
“Students have the opportunity to tailor their own learning journey and connect knowledge and skills gained to their life goals and pathways beyond school. This flexibility empowers students — myMAP ensures every child within Assumption College maximises their learning potential in every classroom.
“Our beautiful grounds (40 hectares) gives access to impressive sporting grounds and facilities, a working farm, a MasterChef-like kitchen and a Marlhes Restaurant, well-resourced library, dance studio, drama and music spaces, arts technology centre, animal studies centre, gymnasium (incorporating fitness room), huge community pavilion and boarding houses — all encouraging diverse skill development.”
Assumption College hosts male and female boarding students, who can choose to return home at weekends, as there is an academic five-day boarding program or seven days.
They can take advantage of additional academic support, tutoring and study support and healthy, nutritious meals are prepared on-site by a chef.
“There is a lot going on about the school and we think there is a lot to love. Come in and meet our people and learn from our students,” Ms Fogarty said.
Enrolments for Year 7 in 2024 close on August 19, 2022. Boarding applications for 2023 are now open.
