At Moira Shire Councils April ordinary meeting last week, council voted unanimously for the contract to be awarded and works to start promptly.
The project will widen and lengthen the existing concrete boat ramp with the additional works to consist of:
• Construction of a temporary sheet pile Coffer Dam to enable works to be performed below normal water level.
• Preparation of subgrade below the proposed works including excavation, compaction and rock fill over geotextile.
• Reinforced concrete slab on ground to maneuvering/approach area for vehicles and trailers.
• Supply and installation of pre-cast reinforced concrete beams and panels making up the proposed boat ramp.
• Supply and installation of large sandbags around the proposed works.
• Associated works including traffic and environmental management and landscaping. The contractor is required to supply all plant, labor and materials necessary to complete the work.
Councillor Peter Lawless moved the motion saying that the updating of the existing boat ramp will be beneficial for the community as well as the Yarrawonga Holiday Park.
“This was mainly brought about by realigning boundaries and giving the caravan park more security,” Cr Lawless said
“It just wasn’t suitable still being in that precinct (caravan park) but where it is to be built on Cullens Road was identified as the ideal place.”
Cr Peter Mansfield seconded the motion, iterating that now would be the perfect time for works to be completed.
“This will be made into a double boat ramp,” Cr Mansfield said.
“At the moment there are situations where there is generally a queue of four or five trailers waiting to get boats in or out as it is a popular boat ramp.
“This is a great benefit to fishers and jet skiers. I monitor the height of the river and at the moment it is at its lowest so I hope the contractor will hop in quickly.”
The Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) and Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) confirmed last week that Lake Mulwala is to be gradual lowered from this week to control an invasive waterweed and undertake necessary infrastructure maintenance.
