Botanic Gardens Shepparton open day on Sunday

The Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton open day this Sunday will commemorate 10 years since the first planting at the site.

A special tree planting and cake cutting by City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Kim O’Keeffe is on the agenda for 11am, with walking tours, a plant sale, garden displays, nature activities, community grant information session and a sausage sizzle to follow.

The Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton is one of over 100 participating in Botanic Gardens Day, with this year’s theme ‘Celebrating the passion for plants’.

The gardens, built atop the old Kialla landfill site, is home to native Australian plants including those native to the region.

Cr O’Keeffe said she was looking forward to celebrating with the many individuals and community groups who had made the day possible.

“The gardens are an asset to our community and an attraction enjoyed by locals and visitors alike,” she said.

The gardens can be accessed from Botanic Gardens Ave off Riverview Dve or from the shared path network for those who wish to walk or cycle.

The event will run this Sunday, May 29 from 10.30am to 2.30pm. Dogs are not permitted.
