That night was quickly followed by the day-of-days, when Black Diamond Speckle Park Stud held its own auction down the road.
The night-time event was hosted by Jackungah Speckle Park Stud, which had once again pulled out the lights, live music, open bar and courtesy bus for the Blueprint Opportunity Speckle Park Sale outside Shepparton.
Top price honour went to heifer Jackungah HSE11 Codiak Pink S21, who sold for $40,000.
Jackungah stud principal Jack Nelson said more than 300 people attended the sale making the event “for sure” bigger than last year’s inaugural sale.
“There was a good mix of established studs and people looking to get into the breed. The plan behind these sales has always been to give people a chance to purchase foundation stock,” Mr Nelson said.
“There were people from everywhere — local, down south and from NSW.”
All 30 females available at the 2022 on-property sale sold to an average of $18,872, while the bulls averaged $10,246.
But it was the young ones who really punched above their weight in the prices, with a flush of Jackungah Koda Q17 selling for $16,000 (matching the top bull price) and four embryos fetching $5500 each.
Another bidder spent $5250 on 10 straws.
“The embryos were pretty close to breaking price records for the breed,” Mr Nelson said.
“Prices were very high and that was driven by the fact those genetics are limited and for some it was the first public release. It was probably the lack of opportunity which drove those bids.”
Four other Victorian studs also had stock in the sale, these were: Ewyn, Hanging Rock, Baw Baw and Bonkonia Speckle Park.
