Finley Bowling Club long-time member Nan Smith was delighted to be appointed a life member of the club with a presentation taking place recently.

Nan was completely unaware of the honour to be given her, however, her husband Dennis and family were in on the secret and were there to help celebrate the occasion.
Nan joined the club in 1984 and has given 38 years of dedication.
A tireless worker, she is always available to help in anyway, including catering, driving the courtesy car (her own), selling raffle tickets and organising functions.
As a bowler, Nan represents the club regularly at all levels.
She has been bowls secretary for the past five years and organises players to support nearby tournaments, thus receiving reciprocal return visits to local events.
Never one to sit back, during COVID-19 lockdown, Nan threw herself into the internal painting and, together with proud husband Dennis, painted the garden furniture.
However, the most important and rewarding role Nan has played in the Finley Bowing Club is that of board member for about 12 years.
Nan will be remembered for her service by many generations of bowlers to come.

The Retreat Public Hall on the Deniliquin Rd will be celebrating 100 years of service to the community during the June long weekend on June 11 and 12.
An invitation is extended to everyone to attend the Open Hall Weekend and view a “through the decades” display.
Join in the old-fashioned family games afternoon on the Saturday with prizes for those who participate from noon to 5 pm.
One-hundred years ago, on opening day, the Retreat school students ran in foot races, rode ponies in gymkhana games, guessed the weight of a melon and a sheep, and also guessed how many beans in a bottle and the length of a piece of string.
Saturday evening from 8pm, an old-time dance with Ian Stewart’s music will conclude the day just as it happened at the grand opening day exactly 100 years ago.
Supper will be provided, and the raffle of a crochet rug will be drawn.
Retreat Hall also hosted may church services in its early years for the local residents with a travelling minister coming most weeks.
On Sunday, June 11, the Finley Community Church will provide a service at 10am followed by lunch and open hall until 3pm. Barbecue and soup available both days.
Camping will be available on-site for anyone travelling.
The committee members are still looking for more photos of The Retreat Hall and memories people would like to share.
If anyone has photos to loan for the display, please drop them into the Finley Library over the next few weeks phone Rose Tilley on 0419 130 929 or email rosieatilley@hotmail.com
