Those who don their winter woolies and wet weather gear, and who grab their umbrellas, should be rewarded if they make their way to the CBD.
The monthly Naponda Farmers’ Market will be held in the Deniliquin CBD.
Located on Cressy St, outside the Naponda Store, the market can be completely undercover if it is raining.
A delicious barbecue breakfast will be available and Deniliquin Local Health Advisory Committee will also be attending.
Organisers say it will be the opportune time to stock up on the vegetables that will go so well with a warming roast, or in a beautiful homemade soup or stew.
Or you could simply treat yourself to some of the other tasty treats and produce on offer, or snap up some local crafts.
Proceeds from the market are used by the Naponda Auxiliary to support Deniliquin Hospital.
Thorough soaking
Speaking of the rain, light but continuous precipitation has left it very wet under foot wherever you go lately.
Light rains started Wednesday afternoon, and seemingly ended as quickly as it started.
But the clouds opened up again from about 1.30am yesterday, and didn’t really stop all day.
At the time of going to print yesterday, the Bureau of Meteorology had recorded 7.8mm in the 24 hours to 9am Thursday, and another 2.2mm by 3pm yesterday.
Possible showers are predicted today and tomorrow, clearing on Sunday.
Sunshine is forecasted for Monday and Tuesday, but more rain is predicted for Wednesday.
Chilly temperatures are also predicted, with mercury not expected to rise over 20°C for the next week.
Keep those gumboots and an umbrella by the door.
Old Boy’s Day Out
The Moulamein Football Netball Club is inviting all past and present members of the Mighty Swans to the traditional Old Boy’s Day Out.
Moulamein correspondent Ian ‘China’ Gibson says this is great event, and will be held on June 4 to coincide with the match against Ultima at home.
Lunch is provided, which China says might even be one of Brendon’s famous spit roasts.
Drinks will be at bar prices.
“This great event will kick off at noon, and there will also be guest speakers,” China said.
“We need to get an idea of numbers for the Old Boy’s Day Out. If you would like to come over, ring Jody on 0408 182 610 or Travis on 0427 332 610 to book in.
“RSVP is a must so Brendon knows how many sheep to put on the spit. Looking forward to seeing you there.”
Calling junior bowlers
Bowls is “no longer an old person’s sport”, with Deniliquin RSL Bowling Club now holding practice nights for its Edward River Junior Bowls Academy.
Juniors in Year 5 and up are encouraged to attend the free practice nights.
The remaining practice nights for Year 5 and 6 students will be held May 18 and 25 from 4pm to 5.30pm.
High school sessions for Years 7 to 11 students are held every Tuesday in May from 4pm to 5.30pm.
No experience or equipment is needed, just come in casual clothes and joggers.
More firies to be recognised
The next round of the Mid Murray Rural Fire Service National Emergency Medal presentations will be held in Deniliquin on Sunday.
Brigades across the Edward River Region will be recognised for their efforts and contribution in keeping our community safe.
Check back next week for the full story and list of winners.
International Nurses Day
Yesterday was International Nurses Day and the Pastoral Times would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our wonderful nurses who work tirelessly to serve our community.
After a tough few years of staffing woes, our nurses continue to turn up every day and support the community, and for that we can not thank them enough.
