Door-knocking will return in 2022 after two years of being unable to do in-person donation collecting due to pandemic restrictions.
This will be the second Red Shield Appeal for Captain Jacky Targett of the Kyabram branch, who hopes to beat last year’s fundraising total of $5000.
“We had a really successful one last year, we are really thankful of the Kyabram community for their efforts last year and hope they can support us again this year,” she said.
“We have people who donate as a way of paying it forward, saying ‘if I help the Salvos out, they are there if I was ever to be in trouble’, which is great.”
All funds raised will be redistributed back into the Kyabram community to help those that need it most.
“COVID has set us back a little but we are hoping to start picking up momentum again,” Ms Targett said.
Donations can be made online at Salvation Army’s website or at the Thrift Shop.
On Saturday, May 28, the Thrift Shop on Bradley St will be selling everything half price.
The shop will be open from 9am to noon, with all funds going towards the Red Shield Appeal.
The Salvation Army will be taking donations at all the usual static collection points, which include football matches and outside supermarkets such as the local Woolworths and IGA.
Ms Targett said with the after-effects of the pandemic and the current economic climate, any little donations from the community were appreciated to support those who were struggling.
“Everything is costing a fortune at the moment and that is making a difference to people’s financial status,” she said.
“There is a huge pocket of need and those people who are in need should reach out, as we are here to help.”
Ms Targett said being able to cover a meal or bill could take stress off those who were struggling.
