The club will also be hosting a barbecue this Saturday at 9:30am on Allan St out the front of Fitzgeralds Farm Fresh Meats, with all funds going towards the cause.
President Tony Alford said the Lions Club was happy to be there to support Mr Simpson and his work to raise awareness about dementia.
“We are here to support Mick on his venture to Melbourne,” Mr Alford said.
“We will throw our two bobs in from the Kyabram end and hopefully his walk will be a great success.”
Mr Simpson, whose walk begins on Tuesday, May 31, said he was thankful for the work the Lions Club had done helping him raise funds for the cause.
“I’d like to thank all the members of the Lions Club for what they have done, it is very much appreciated,” he said.
“Without them, this process would be a lot harder. It has very much been a team effort and joint venture to raise awareness for the cause.”
Mr Simpson said there needed to be greater resources put towards the illness.
“There is a lot of people in the areas that have it and we need a bit more support from the state and federal governments;” he said.
“We need more carers, as there is a massive shortage. There needs to be more incentives for people to get involved in helping people with dementia.”
He said the awareness part was crucial so those currently suffering knew they weren’t alone.
