Tyson Barter, 31, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to drink driving.
Prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Deryn Boote told the court Barter recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.141 when he was stopped by police in Colliver Rd, Shepparton at 2.07am on April 30.
His Ford ute was impounded for 30 days and his driver’s licence was immediately suspended.
Barter told police at the time his reason for driving was “I can’t leave the car there”, Leading Sen Constable Boote said.
The court was told Barter, a father of three, does not have prior convictions for any criminal or traffic matters.
Representing himself in court, Barter, who now works doing rural fencing, but had a different job at the time, said he had $3000 to $5000 worth of his boss’s tools in the ute at the time.
He told the court he was planning to park the ute where there were cameras.
Magistrate Julie Grainger fined Barter $750, but did not record a conviction.
He was also disqualified from driving for 14 months, backdated to start when his licence was taken off him on April 30.
